DARK MATTER

I am drawn to the darker areas and shadowy undergrowth of woodlands, gardens and around the fringes of ponds. How often do we walk right past, overlooking the wonders that may be revealed through dappled, filtered or indirect light? Dark matter is said to make up 90% of the physical universe, yet remains invisible. It serves as an interesting metaphor for me, helping me create images that celebrate nature that may otherwise be passed by, stepped over or simply go unnoticed because other elements are more showy, more brightly lit. Rendering them in black and white with some dodging and burning at the post-processing stage helps to reveal striking patterns, textures or contrasts.
